Avant launches a new antibacterial additive for TPU films for medical and outdoor applications

December 14, 2023 - Avant, a provider of professional and sustainable material solutions and services, today announced the expansion of its Cesa™ Withstand™ portfolio with a new class of antimicrobial and antifungal additives. These new classes of antimicrobials are designed to improve the performance of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film laminating products and equipment, where the prevention of microbial growth is a critical part of the application.

In the outdoor, medical, aviation, Marine and industrial markets,TPU films are widely used as waterproofing or product bonding layers, and our new grade of Cesa Withstand antibacterial additives can help inhibit microbial growth, thereby avoiding product odors, stains, discoloration and loss of mechanical properties due to microbial growth."

Cesa Withstand additives contain organic and inorganic ingredients that inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold and fungi on plastic surfaces, providing excellent antibacterial properties. Extensive testing under international standards, including JIS 2801, confirms that the product is effective in reducing bacterial activity on TPU thin film laminated plastics and fabric surfaces. The additive has also passed rigorous anti-fungal testing to JIS Z 2911 standards.

Two new grades of Evant's Cesa Withstand antibacterial additives for TPU films meet the specific antimicrobial and mould protection needs of applications such as medical beds, transparent tent components and ice packs. These antibacterial additives can also be further developed for other applications, such as portable energy storage, protective equipment, outdoor clothing and inflatable sleeping MATS. Both products are currently manufactured in Asia and are available worldwide.
